Tension had escalated between AmaZulu, AmaXhosa and AmaMpondo in the area after the murder of Thabiso Sibisi.
Sibisi, 15, was stabbed in the back and chest a fortnight ago after an argument.
His alleged murderer, a Xhosa-speaker, has since left the area.
Gang violence erupted in the area as Zulu-speaking people sought to take revenge for Sibisi's death.
It's alleged that Sibisi's friends had gone on the rampage searching for the suspect and assaulted his acquaintances. Relatives of the alleged attacker have also fled the area.
Yesterday the municipality's community participation and action support unit manager, Ntokozo Chonco, said the council had intervened after a request from the the community.
He said it was their aim was to bring the feuding parties together.
"In order to address this problem we are busy working with the leadership in the area and other role players to ensure that the problem is resolved amicably," Chonco said.
"We will continue to monitor the situation until the problem is resolved."
