LIMPOPO Premier Cassel Mathale got more than he bargained for when the residents of Dan Village - his home town - gave him an ultimatum: build us a tarred road or we will disown you.

LIMPOPO Premier Cassel Mathale got more than he bargained for when the residents of Dan Village - his home town - gave him an ultimatum: build us a tarred road or we will disown you.

They said this during a banquet organised by the local ANC branch at the village outside Tzaneen on Saturday.

The banquet was attended by more than 12000 villagers. It was held to toast the village for having produced an ANC provincial chairperson and a premier.

The residents, among them Mathale's closest relatives, said if he did not give them a tarred road, they would "report him to his parents who are a heartbeat away" from their houses. They also said they would not support him as premier.

Resident Glacia Baloyi, who was Mathale's classmate at N'waxinzele Primary School, said the village needed a tarred road.

She said they had voted for the ANC and Mathale. She said Mathale should construct a tarred road that led to shops, schools and clinics because "life comes to a standstill during the rainy season". Mathale promised to look into their request.
