Calitz, Francois Putter, 20, Shaun Calitz, 20, and two minors, aged 17, are charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
They allegedly attacked five employees of Branden Village Pub in Evander, severely assaulting Vuyokazi Mtsabe, 25, on the night of June 20.
Sowetan was reliably told about Calitz's suspended sentence, which was confirmed by Superintendent Abie Khoabane of Mpumalanga police.
He said Calitz and an accomplice were arrested in an almost similar case in 2002. They had attacked a black man and brutally assaulted him.
The victim later died but the two were only convicted and sentenced for assault in 2005.
Calitz, who was 21 at the time, was sentenced to five years imprisonment, suspended for five years, on the promise of good behaviour.
By engaging in last week's attack he broke the suspension condition and might have to serve either the full sentence or part of it.
Khoabane told Sowetan that the police only discovered recently that Calitz was still serving a suspended sentence when he committed the latest crime.
"This was after the court had granted him R1000 bail," he said.
He said the information would be presented to the court at their next appearance on July 9 in the Evander magistrate's court.
Putter and Shaun Calitz were also released on R1000 bail each, while the minors were released into the custody of their parents.
During the attack the suspects, who were travelling in a bakkie, allegedly hurled racial insults at their victims, calling them "kaffirs" and warning them that blacks were not welcome in Branden Village.
Mtsabe, who was punched, kicked and thrown to the ground, was treated at a hospital and discharged the following day. She sustained back, head and facial injuries.
