World-renowned South African flugelhorn player Hugh Masekela entertained thousands of fans in the Teatro Theatre, Montecasino, Fourways at the weekend.

The two-day Hugh Masekela and Friends concert was packed to the rafters with both young and old enjoying themselves.

The concert marked the trumpeter's 70th birthday. He featured Tshepo Tshola, Tshepo Mngoma and Thandiswa Mazwai, who each performed one song from their repertoire.

Though this was Bra Hugh's gig, the audience expected more from the guest artists.

For example, when Tshola took to the stage the crowd erupted in appreciation. He performed one song and left the stage. The crowd would have none of that and demanded that he return -which he did.

Thandiswa also sang one song from her new album, Ingoma, and left the appreciative crowd wondering whether she was going to give them some more. That did not happen.
