THE department of Rural Development and Land Reform in North West has come to the rescue of a family who were refused permission to bury their grandmother on the farm they live on.
Martha Doorn, 91, who worked on the farm outside Klerksdorp for more than 45 years - died this month and her family was shocked when the farm's owner, Jannie Deventer, refused them permission to bury her next to her husband.
The department's provincial spokesperson Poppy Mongae said the department had recently "negotiated" with Deventer who agreed the family could now bury Doorn on the farm - on Saturday.
