Hugh Masekela, pictured, will be joined by his friends on stage in Johannesburg this weekend to celebrate his 70th birthday.
The concert will take place at Montecasino in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, tonight and tomorrow. The rave kicks off at 8pm at the Teatro Theatre.
Those who will perform with Masekela are musicians whose artistic prowess the flugelhorn player admires.
The first of these concerts was at Carnival City about two months ago. Bra Hugh's friends who are sure to make this a memorable even, are Tsepo Tshola, Tsepo Mngoma, and Thandiswa Mazwai, who is firmly in the class of influential South African artists. Mazwai has crafted a respectable path of sleek sounds with her mix of African folklore, pop sounds and jazz-inflected rhythm, creating a modern, sophisticated repertoire enjoyed by both old and young.
