The ANC Youth League is today expected to announce the disbandment of the provincial executive committees [PEC] in the three provinces.
On Monday, the ANC denied that it had disbanded the PEC in North West. This after some ANCYL members and the province said the PEC was disbanded. The announcement was made after the ANC national executive committee had visited the province to iron out disputes between factions in the province.
"The NEC of the ANC made no decision regarding the PEC of the North West," ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte said on Monday.
ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shiv ambo said: "We are meeting on Wednesday (today) to discuss among other things our position on the North West and Western Cape leadership issues.
"We have never said the ANC must disband the provincial leadership as reported.
"It was one person who is a member of the ANC and the youth league who voiced his opinion, and this was reported as a position of the youth league."
However, Sowetan has learned that the bigwigs at Luthuli House are expected to visit all the "problematic provinces" before replacing their executive committees with interim structures from the ANC head office.
ANC sources say secretary general Gwede Mantashe, is "hoping mad" about reports of ongoing divisions in North West - along with reports that some structures of the tripartite alliance in the province wanted him removed from his position.
During the recent elective conference of the National Union of Mineworkers, Mantashe attacked the City Press for "collaborating with mischievous groups" in the SA Municipal Workers Union and Sanco who called for him to vacate his office.
Mantashe has indicated that the party would come down heavily against those creating divisions within the party - an accusation which has been levelled at the current provincial leadership.
