Gang breaks into Home Affairs office

A GANG has broken into the Cullinan office of the Department of Home Affairs and stolen a plasma TV set, computers and cash.

A GANG has broken into the Cullinan office of the Department of Home Affairs and stolen a plasma TV set, computers and cash.

The theft occurred on Monday night after about nine gangsters held up two security guards at gunpoint.

Home Affairs spokesperson Ronny Mamoepa, pictured, confirmed the robbery, saying the gang took three computers, a DStv decoder and a plasma TV set.

He said the matter had been reported to the police.

Spokesperson for Cullinan police Johannes Jaftha said the gang entered the office building after cutting a hole in the fence.

Jaftha said they tied up the guards and left one of them to guard them while they ransacked the offices.

After the thieves left, one of the guards managed to "hop to the window of the building facing the Shell filling station and screamed at its guards to call the police".

No official documents were taken, Jaftha said.
