White Wedding rolls the millions

AFTER grossing R1,1million at the box office in its first week of its release, local film White Wedding continues to make more millions.

Written by two well-known actors Rapulana Seiphemo and Kenneth Nkosi, the film was released seven weeks ago and now it has made over R4,2million. About 200000 people are reported to have seen the local film.

The film has sold more tickets than the hit gangster movie Jerusalema did on its opening weekend, and twice as many as Academy Award winner Tsotsi at the time of its release. Other films it has surpassed include Slumdog Millionaire.

The film's publicist Joy Spieka said: "We cannot believe what the movie has done. It is incredibly doing well as a movie and it is going far."

Although the film is doing well, Spieka is worried that the music pirates are targeting the film.

The White Wedding's sound track album and DVD will be released at the end of the month. The sound track features the music of HHP, the late Brenda Fassie, Bongo Muffin, Ihash' elimhlophe, Tasha Baxter, Steadyrock and JR, among others.

Nkosi and Seiphemo have starred or featured in many successful local feature films including Max and Mona, Hijack Stories, Jerusalema and Tsotsi.

White Weddingis about two friends Elvis and Tumi who are on the journey to Cape Town. They are going to Cape Town to begin rehearsals for Elvis's wedding to the beautiful Ayanda (Zandile Msutwana) at an upmarket hotel in glamorous palm-fringed Camps Bay under the cloak of Table Mountain.
