Twelve local celebrities, including Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, "blade runner" Oscar Pistorius, 5FM DJs Elana Afrika and Fresh, Independent Democrats president Patricia de Lille, comedian Barry Hilton and former Miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo will take part in an on-line auction to raise funds for a teenage suicide helpline. The toll-free helpline will be run by the SA Depression and Anxiety Group.
Bidding on the website www.bidorbuy.co.za starts today at R1 and will run until June 30. The highest bidder wins a lunch date with four friends and their favourite celebrity. Money raised from the auction will be donated to Sadag's teen suicide prevention campaign "Suicide shouldn't be a secret". Sadag spokesperson Cassey Amoore says the organisation is concerned by the high rate of teenage suicides. The toll-free number is 0800-567-567.
