CHARLES Moya is a construction worker refurbishing Johannesburg's Soccer City Stadium.
The 41-year-old father of two says he earns R3015 a month. He instals pipes at the stadium and sometimes works overtime to boost his salary.
"If I work overtime, my salary becomes R3400," he said.
But overtime means Moya must work over weekends and sacrifice seeing his family in Pretoria. The stadium is being revamped for the 2010 World Cup by giant construction company Grinaker LTA.
Grinaker and Interbeton JV have partially demolished the former FNB Stadium at Nasrec and are revamping it. The project is at an advanced stage and resembles a calabash.
Moya's day starts at 7.30am and ends at 4pm. He said he sends at least R2000 home each month and must also pay for groceries and a room he rents in Soweto, leaving nothing over at the end of each month.
"I'd be happy if my salary could go up to R5000," he said.
