Bridges reaches out

HOLLYWOOD actor Beau Bridges has been named an ambassador of Give Me a Chance Children's Foundation.

HOLLYWOOD actor Beau Bridges has been named an ambassador of Give Me a Chance Children's Foundation.

The foundation, which is based in Stellenbosch, has chosen the 67-year-old Los Angeles actor to promote the organisation abroad.

Bridges was approached while he was in the country shooting Free Willy: South Africa, the latest sequel in the Free Willie series. He has agreed to become the foundation's global ambassador.

Foundation director Katherine Berchulski believes that this was an opportunity for the organisation to continue their growth and broaden their reach.

The foundation was established by Alluvia Specialist Winery owners in 2005. It supports school children in local farming communities with funds for school fees, uniforms, sports gear, equipment and books.

The programme also provides students with additional support through mentoring programmes for career guidance and personal development.

"I was impressed by the Give Me a Chance Children's Foundation and their initiatives," Bridges says. "I would like to help them in their quest to reach out with their efforts to the US.
