ECHOES of sporadic gun fire was followed by a call for a ceasefire and peace to allow the law to take its course.

This was during an emotionally charged funeral of Angelo "Porra" Felisberto of Zaccharia Park outside Lenasia on Saturday.

Felisberto, 34, was gunned down in a suspected gang related tiff outside Uncle Charlies night club - opposite Southgate Mall - last Sunday.

Ricardo Dearling, a friend who was with Felisberto when he was shot, said a fight had broken out at the night club three weeks ago between people from Eldorado Park and those from Westbury.

Dearling said: "Angelo was in no way involved in the fight, he was merely trying to talk to the guys and make peace. In any case, Angelo was never the fighting type."

Minutes after Felisberto's grave was covered and the priest had blessed the service, the deceased's friends Urie Bassit, Gregory Louw and others gathered around the grave and pleaded for peace to prevail.

"Let there be peace. If you people talk of revenge, please count me out. Let us all leave everything in the hands of the relevant authorities so that the law could take its course," Bassit said.

The deceased's mother Wilhemina Felisberto had earlier told the Sowetan that his son's murderers were known, and witnesses had stepped forward - though she could not understand why no arrests have been made.

Booysens police station spokesperson Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik last week confirmed that the gun used in the shooting was handed in by one of the witnesses.

Van Emmerik said police have information on the whereabouts of the suspects and that arrests were imminent.
