As the F1 circus set up camp at Silverstone for what may be the final British Grand Prix to be held at the famous old former wartime airbase, sources close to both the Formula One Teams Association (Fota) and Mosley confirmed that a final effort had been made to resolve their differences.
Mosley, the controversial British president of the sport's ruling body, the International Motoring Federation (FIA), wrote to the Brawn, BMW-Sauber, McLaren-Mercedes, Renault and Toyota teams with fresh proposals.
The "rebel five" have lodged their entries for the 2010 series, but conditional on a relaxation of Mosley's budget-cap rules.
Talks broke down earlier this week when Mosley accused the teams of effectively "wanting to take over the sport" but yesterday it seemed both sides were prepared to end their posturing and seek a sensible compromise deal.
In his letter, Mosley outlined the terms he was prepared to accept from the teams in return for the teams involved lodging unconditional entries before today's final deadline. His main proposal was to change the mooted budget cap for next year from ß45million to ß100million euros - and then to cut it further to ß45million in 2011. - Sapa-AFP
