A 29-YEAR-OLD man who raped a six-year-old girl has apologised to his victim's family but says he is not remorseful.
Kwanele Mlambo was speaking during the mitigation of his sentence at the South Gauteng high court yesterday. And when prosecutor Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka asked him why he was not remorseful, Mlambo replied: "Because I did not do it."
Mlambo said he had been framed by his ex-girlfriend and the girl's family.
"Nosipho (ex-girlfriend) has always wished the worst for me since I left her and started going out with Dudu. She has now succeeded in putting me behind bars," Mlambo claimed.
He said in September 2007 while visiting a couple in Dawn Park informal settlement, he had asked if he could take their child along to see his sister.
Being a family friend, they allowed him to take the girl and her three friends along. Her friends were all boys.
He said the couple and his ex-girlfriend later claimed he had raped the girl.
Mlambo was found guilty of rape early this week and will be sentenced on Monday.
