Before you beat yourself up about it, pay attention to fashion guru Lerato Zako of the Edcon group, who gives you the lowdown of what's hot for women this season and how to mix and match.
Zako says the main winter fashion for women is divided into three themes - rock, ladylike and layered.
"The rock theme consists of printed tees, checked shirts, biker jackets and skinny jeans worn with riding boots, high-heeled boots or ankle boots.
"This theme is perfect for weekends, casual or a girls' night out.
"The ladylike look, on the other hand, is great for work, meeting the in-laws or even a date. In this category you find dresses of all sorts, coats and pencil skirts," Zako says.
"The must-have complements for the ladylike look are pretty blouses and cardigans with court shoes or ballet pumps.
"The layered look consist of tunics, leggings, cardigans and layering knitwear pieces worn with boots," explains the expert.
Zako says winter fashion can never be complete without the perfect colour or shade. We know the usual suspects like brown, mushroom and greys will surface, but Zako says purple, red, mustard and teal are hot right now.
She says over the past few years, boots have made a comeback and are more of a prominent sealer that perfects the winter look.
"Whether ankle or knee-length, boots always look good and fashionable. With leggings or skinny jeans tucked into them, these are a perfect compliment to the leg focus we are seeing everyday. Casual boots such as riding boots or cowboy boots in tans or blacks are perfect for the weekend. High heeled, ankle and knee-high boots are great for work and for going out," Zako says.
She also says that no woman should be without a good pair of jeans during this cold season.
"Jeans are an all-rounder. You can wear them in a casual way or even when you want to look elegant. Skinny jeans look great tucked into boots, but also look stylish with high-heeled shoes. They can be from dark to extremely light with rip and repair.
