POLICE did "nothing" to protect Somali shopkeepers from a wave of xenophobic looting in Worcester in March last year, the Cape Town equality court heard yesterday.
This was the testimony of Thomas Teketel, one of 11 Somalis who have accused the police of unfairly discriminating against them.
Teketel is claiming R505000 from the police for emotional distress, loss of his belongings and stock.
Teketel ran the Thembinkosi Trading Store in Zwelethemba.
Looters on March 8 made off with his stock, possessions and destroyed his shop. - Sapa
