Below is a timeline of recent events:

March 17 - Rajoelina takes power with army support after Ravalomanana is forced out. At least 135 people killed in protests.

March 18 - Madagascar's Constitutional Court endorses the takeover.

March 19 - Norway, which gives R112million a year in aid, freezes funding.

March 20 - The AU suspends Madagascar, saying it has six months to call an election. The US moves to suspend all non-humanitarian assistance.

March 21 - Rajoelina installed as new leader.

March 25 - The new government offers to start talks with allies of Ravalomanana.

March 30 - SADC suspends Madagascar.

May 8 - The IMF says it has frozen aid.

May 27 - Rajoelina refuses to allow ousted leader Ravalomanana to return from exile.

June 3 - Ravalomanana is sentenced in absentia to four years in jail for buying a presidential jet.

June 14 - Ravalomanana's allies say he could share power under an interim authority. - Reuters
