THE DAUGHTER of a Finnish industrialist was released this weekend after a two-and-a-half-week kidnapping ordeal after payment of a R112million ransom, police reported yesterday.

Minna Nurminen, 26, was released in a forest near the city of Turku on Saturday after the ransom's payment. Police said she was in good health. She had been reported missing since May 27.

Minna's mother Hanna is considered to be Finland's richest woman. Minna's parents had cooperated with police in their contacts with the kidnappers, including on the decision to pay the ransom. Shortly after the payment, officers arrested a 44-year-old female suspect in the kidnapping. - Sapa
