The World Cup was always a dream and dreamers are entitled to think big.

Only a dreamer could have expected sports' greatest spectacle to be staged in South Africa. Pinch yourself, but it's happening. Its curtain raiser, the Confederations Cup, kicks off next week.

Sure, we must still iron out a few details, such as transport. But the games are on.

No African side has ever appeared in the World Cup semis, so our hopes for Bafana might be a dream too far.

But we've proved the naysayers wrong in the past. Let's dream that the odd hundred thousand vuvuzelas around our pitches will shake up things enough upstairs to attract heavenly help.
