AS FINAL preparations for the Fifa Confederations Cup get under way, the KwaZulu-Natal government has made big screens available for people in the province to view some of the action.
The province will host public viewing areas (PVAs) at four key districts in the province to give people a taste of the Confederations Cup excitement.
Entry to the PVAs is free.
The Confederations Cup, considered a dress rehearsal for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, kicks off on Sunday and features continental and international soccer giants, who include Egypt, Italy, Iraq, New Zealand, Spain, the US, Brazil and host nation South Africa.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development and tourism Michael Mabuyakhulu said the PVAs would be hosted at uThungulu (Richards Bay), Ugu district (South Coast), Umgungundlovu district (Pietermaritzburg) and uThukela district (northern region).
He said the project would cost R20million, with soccer fans viewing key matches live on the big screens.
Mabuyakhulu said stadium gates would open at 9am until late in the evening.
There will also be other entertainment.
Security has been provided to ensure the safety of fans.
