After the announcement last week of General Motors' filing for bankruptcy, GM South Africa had its own news in that the locally built Hummer brand has found a new home in a Chinese Motor Corporation and the local unit will continue to build them under licence agreement. The Chinese industry is well known for its man-on-the-street pricing and perhaps the already fairly affordable brand will be sold for even less. Only time will tell.
Making a U-turn back home, the monthly new car figures indicate positivity when compared with last months. Pre-owned cars are doing great. Plenty more bargains are still out there on new and used car markets.
Mercedes Benz is still offering its innovative design-a-deal promotion where if you have chosen a certain range, such as a C-Class, a certain amount of virtual money is available to the buyer to either use as part of the monthly instalment or towards Mobilo drive or for insurance. The C-Class deal seems to have ballooned to R40000.
The McCarthy Toyota dealer in Midrand offers a fresh pre-owned Toyota Corolla 1,6 Professional . Retail price is R164 995 but the dealer sells it at R154000.
With a refreshed version of Toyota's popular Fortuner SUV already out, the dealer charges R20000 less than its new price list.
