THE SABC film, Coming Home, has won three international awards in Italy.

The film won first place in three of seven major categories at the 20th International Ciak Junior Festival in Treviso .

Based on a story by talented teenager Amber-Jay van Rooyen, the film won Best Film, Best Actor/Actress for Amber-Jay and the Unesco Fellini Medal for best film embodying the spirit and culture of its country.

Produced by Mindpool Productions, the film was also nominated for Best Broadcasters Award and Best Film.

Twelve countries took part and 23 films were entered. Jacqui Hlongwane-Papo, SABC's executive producer, and Van Rooyen and her mother were in Italy from May 27 to 31.

Hlongwane-Papo says: "We are delighted and honoured to win. Amber-Jay won the hearts of the children and adults alike. In the four years that South Africa competed, we won many top awards.

"Coming Home tells the story of a friendship between a young white girl and an old Zulu Spirit. It is an honest and heart-warming story. The film will be broadcast early next year on SABC1," she says.
