Park given all-inclusive name

AN international conservation park, sprawled across South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe will be given a new name.

AN international conservation park, sprawled across South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe will be given a new name.

The Limpopo-Shashe Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA) will be renamed Mapungubwe National Park on June 19, said water and environmental affairs spokesperson Lizzy Suping yesterday.

The Limpopo-Shashe TFCA was created in 2006 through an agreement between the three countries.

The park, which includes land from all three countries, was named after the Limpopo river from South Africa and the Shashe river in Botswana, which join in the park. A geographical detail from Zimbabwe was not included in the name.

"They were looking for a name inclusive of all the three countries," said Suping.

The new name comes from the land around the area. - Sapa
