'No one will stop street committees'

POLICE Minister Nathi Mthethwa says nothing will stop him from setting up street committees in every community.

Responding to President Jacob Zuma's state of the nation address on Wednesday, he said there was "nothing genuine" about opposition parties' objections to the street committees.

Zuma did not mention street committees in his address but said people should take part in community policing forums.

Mthethwa said objections to street committees should be ignored as these were the views of "those who are comfortable wherever they are. Social security and high walls have blinded them".
