MPUMALANGA police have been advised to attend stress-related counselling sessions to avoid committing violent acts.

MPUMALANGA police have been advised to attend stress-related counselling sessions to avoid committing violent acts.

This after Constable Gilmond Ntimane, 30, who is based at Calcutta police station, allegedly shot and killed his wife Siphiwe Shabalala early on Sunday morning.

Provincial police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane said: "We offer de-briefing sessions and it is advisable for police officers to attend the sessions."

Ntimane was arrested on Monday and is expected to appear before the Mkhuhlu magistrate's court for bail application today.

Police said Shabalala and Ntimane were married, though initially she was believed to be his girlfriend.

On Sunday, Shabalala found Ntimane in the company of another woman, believed to be his girlfriend.

An argument then ensued between the two women. Shabalala tried to drive away but Ntimane reportedly tried to stop her.

However, Shabalala still drove away, prompting Ntimane to become angry and fire two warning shots.

And when she didn't stop, Ntimane fired at the car, hitting her in the right shoulder.

"She was certified dead by paramedics when they arrived at the scene and the suspect was nowhere to be found until his arrest on Monday morning," said Khoabane.
