SPAIN-BASED defender Nasief Morris was axed from Bafana Bafana for the Confederations Cup due to his failure to adhere to their code of conduct, including refusal to speak to the media.

Sowetan has been informed that coach Joel Santana and the technical team were angered by Morris' attitude despite reporting for camp late. He reported on Wednesday.

The down-to-earth Morris was initially expected in the camp on Monday after playing for his club Recreativo Huelva last Sunday.

On his arrival in the camp, Morris is alleged to have informed management he will not do any media interviews for the duration of the Confederations Cup.

Morris could not be reached for comment yesterday as he was reported to be on his way to Cape Town.

Santana declined to be drawn into the reasons for axing Morris, except to say:

"We have a code of conduct for the players in the team which was drafted long before I joined the team.

"Everybody must adhere to those rules and regulations. I'm not going to go into details as to why we dropped Morris - it is an internal matter."

The other five players dropped from the team by Santana yesterday are Masilo Modubi, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Moeneeb Josephs, Mzuvukile Tom and Siyabonga Nkosi.

Defending his shocking decision to include Matthew Booth, Brian Baloyi and Lance Davids who have not been playing regularly for their respective clubs last season, Santana stressed that the trio have a crucial role to play for Bafana Bafana in the Confederations Cup.
