Top officials sacked for graft

The council of Modimolle municipality in Limpopo yesterday dismissed two senior officials who were found guilty on corruption charges.

The two have been on suspension since June last year.

Charles Powell, who was the municipal manager, and Matshidiso Segwapa, the former chief financial officer, were found guilty of irregularities in the handling of municipal finances.

Powell was accused of the mismanagement of funds relating to the Vaalwater reservoir.

Segwapa was found guilty of incompetence after the municipality was fined for failing to file tax returns for two consecutive financial years.

Municipal spokesperson Patrick Shika yesterday confirmed the dismissals.
