Residents of Giyani urged to save water

GIYANI residents are being warned to use water sparingly because of a looming water crisis.

GIYANI residents are being warned to use water sparingly because of a looming water crisis.

Since last week the municipality has been distributing pamphlets to inform and warn the residents about measures to be followed in order to avert a possible water crisis.

Residents have also been advised not to use hosepipes to water their gardens and to make use of buckets when washing vehicles.

Since last week the municipality has distributed pamphlets to all households, especially in the Giyani central business district and the township, in which they warn residents to save water to prevent a disaster.

Residents are also warned that those who are found wasting water will face heavy penalties.

"The people around Giyani should join hands with the municipality and work together to prevent a water crisis from hitting the area," municipality spokesperson Room Mdaka said.

The municipality gets its water from the Klein Letaba and Nsami dams outside Giyani and the water level in the two dams is deteriorating every day.
