Well paid senior public officials are regularly exposed, primarily because there are junior officials who are concerned and prepared (albeit anonymously) to leak such information to the media.
Most probably the exposés account for only 10 to 20percent of the actual fraud, corruption, nepotism and sheer incompetence but at least there is public exposure.
Corruption is not limited to South Africa. Recent exposure of misdemeanors of British parliamentarians - even of ministers - is a case in point.
In some countries exposure leads to speedy dismissal and judicial action but events in South Africa, especially when they concern senior public individuals with political affiliations, are frequently obfuscated or dealt with by way of prolonged judicial action where the state even pays for the defendants legal costs.
The ANC government must be aware that it has not received a mandate to tolerate inefficiency and corruption.
South Africans would much prefer to see efficient and effective management, or at least serious efforts to achieve better government , rather than feeling despondent because there continues to be justified cause for criticism.
