Olympian rider set to coach kids

ASPIRING youngsters around Gauteng will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the SA BMX Olympian, Sifiso "Skizo" Nhlapo in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

ASPIRING youngsters around Gauteng will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the SA BMX Olympian, Sifiso "Skizo" Nhlapo in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

The admired rider Nhlapo will be conducting the MTN coaching clinics hosted by the MTN at the Toyota MTN Cycle Park.

He is expected to impart his massive knowledge to the kids and show them how exciting BMX cycling is and the opportunities it can present them.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Nhlapo said he enjoyed working with kids and was looking forward to teaching them the basics of the sporting code.

The articulate Nhlapo represented South Africa at the Beijing Olympics in August where he did fairly well.

Miranda Lusiba, MTN's spokesperson for sponsorship, has urged the children to grab this opportunity with both hands and also urged them to attend the event in large numbers.

"With Nhlapo competing in events around the world throughout the year, we have earmarked his visit to South Africa as the ideal platform to leverage his success and popularity to give back to the community," Lusiba said.

"We are trying hard to create awareness in this sport because we have a lot of talented budding riders who need good guidance and motivation.

"Nhlapo has a lot of experience which will come in handy for these aspirant youngsters."

Nhlapo, who is expected in the country before the end of this week from Europe, had an outstanding showing in the European BMX Championships series last month.

He is also preparing himself for the 2012 London Olympics.
