False piety

IT DOES not get any more ironic than what the world witnessed in Wichita, USA, yesterday when pro-choice Dr George Tiller was murdered, apparently by those who say they are pro-life.

IT DOES not get any more ironic than what the world witnessed in Wichita, USA, yesterday when pro-choice Dr George Tiller was murdered, apparently by those who say they are pro-life.

Tiller, who ran an abortion clinic to up to 21 weeks after conception, was killed on the foyer of a local church.

This was after he had previously survived attacks on him in 1985 when his clinic was bombed and in 1993 when he was shot in both arms.

His killer and those who have supported a campaign of terror against him, most certainly of a religious bent, must have thought that their taking life is somehow more acceptable than the crime for which they charged, judged and executed him. The challenge for all of us is never to assume our understanding of matters divine more inspired than those of our neighbours.
