THIS year marked the 33rd anniversary of the fallen heroes and heroines of 1976 and we remember the committed young people such as Hector Pieterson, Tsietsi Mashinini, Mbuyiswa and their mentor Zephaniah Mothopeng of the PAC.
THIS year marked the 33rd anniversary of the fallen heroes and heroines of 1976 and we remember the committed young people such as Hector Pieterson, Tsietsi Mashinini, Mbuyiswa and their mentor Zephaniah Mothopeng of the PAC.
These young leaders fought against the divisions created by colonial slavery. They forged ahead to reunite the poor young people of the country and to regroup regardless of ideological beliefs and political affiliations.
They fought and defended themselves against bullets with the lids of bins. Their struggle was for freedom of choice, emancipation of the Azanian people and the hope that the new regime would be continental in scope and socialist in approach and practice.
Was their blood spilt in vain when we remember them during this regime? Is this the same regime that they fought for? Would they celebrate in this manner had they still been alive?
It is quite embarrassing that the present government organises youth month events to promote and propagate activities of the ANC.
Other organisations, particularly liberation movements, are not even recognised.
Leaders of the ruling party organise expensive whiskeys for their friends and award contracts to their comrades as service providers at these events.
The ANC is a power drunk organisation led by askaris, reactionaries and opportunists who have no respect for our history.
It is about time that the ANC distinguished between the state and the organisation.
This government is not an ANC government but an ANC-led government. Government resources should not be used to recruit or promote the ANC.
