No interpreter, so murder trial is postponed

The absence of a court interpreter forced a high court judge to adjourn a trial against a widow accused of masterminding the death of her husband.

Yesterday Judge Kathy Satchwell postponed the trial of Sophie Mojapelo and her friend Antoinette Masuku until today.

Judge Satchwell told the two women that their trial could not proceed as there was no interpreter in court.

It is alleged Mojapelo, with the help of Masuku, hired a hitman, Mozambican Orlando Mandoza, to murder her husband Albert.

The three are accused of kidnapping and killing Mojapelo - who was shot execution style at Orange Farm, Vaal, on September 28, 2005 - a day before he was to receive his retirement package. - Ntwaagae Seleka
