Two DJs jointly win top prize

SANELE "Fabulous" Ndwalane and Mpume Madondo are the joint winners of the Vodacom Battle of the DJs competition.

SANELE "Fabulous" Ndwalane and Mpume Madondo are the joint winners of the Vodacom Battle of the DJs competition.

The announcement was made at a gala dinner at Ushaka Marine World in Durban on Friday.

Ndwalane and Madondo will work for iGagasi 99.5 FM for a year and will be paid by Vodacom.

The station's programmes manager, Patric Bogatsu, said the talent in the competition had been overwhelming and it was difficult to select the best from the top 10 since they were all exceptional.

The two winners were shortlisted from the more than 200 contestants who had initially entered the competition.

"The listeners had a say in who they wanted to take the crown through SMS voting, which made it easy for us to make a decision," Bogatsu said.Ndwalane, of Port Shepstone, is no stranger to the airwaves as he has previously worked for the South Coast community radio station .

"I am excited that I am now going to have an audience of more than a million listeners," he said.

Madondo, of Esikhawini near Empangeni, has worked as an intern for a Johannesburg-based radio station.

"Winning the competition came at a perfect time for me to dedicate the time to the station and then decide whether I want to work on radio full- time," said the third-year IT student.

Wanda Mathandela of Vodacom's marketing services in KZN said the competition celebrated the vibrancy of the company and helped it re-connect with the youth.
