That is really bad. Recession affects us all but the poor will be the hardest hit.
Does the government have a plan to take us out of this desperate situation? One hopes that during his first state of the nation address President Jacob Zuma will outline the government's plan on how to deal with this challenge.
One of the things that seems to drive our economy deeper into crisis is the continued price-fixing, especially on food, by big companies. Sadly, those who commit this dastardly act get away with murder.
Price-fixing is a criminal act and should be treated as such. In simple terms, those caught practicing it should be charged, sentenced and thrown behind bars. This will deter big companies from price-fixing.
What is happening at present is an injustice of great magnitude to the poor and unsuspecting consumers: big companies found guilty of price fixing are slapped in the wrist with small fines and the fixed prices remain the same.
The DA encourages people to help expose corrupt politicians and government officials (read blacks) by reporting them. Why does it not also encourage reporting big companies that are involved in price-fixing?
Big companies are greedy and want to make huge profits. The government should intervene and help the toothless Competition Board to stop this criminal activity.
