THE grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence - as award-winning Mambo musician Jeff Maluleke has discovered.

After spending almost a decade in Gauteng seeking fame and fortune, the talented composer has returned to his Mpumalanga roots.

His return was prompted by a number of reasons, including opening a music school in his native Acornhoek.

"The future looks bright here. I want to prove that as an artist I do not need to live in a big city to be successful," he said at a braai at West Acres in Nelspruit on Saturday night.

Maluleke, now under a new manager, will launch his first comeback gig at the the Mpumalanga business gala dinner on June 27 at the Lowveld Agricultural College in Nelspruit.

This event is a joint venture between Risenga and Elangeni Consulting Services, both based in Nelspruit.

Elangeni director Owen Cassinga said: "The show will be a combination of business and pleasure. The event will be an opportunity for business- people, leaders of organisations and civil servants to interact while having fun."

The show, which will have guest speakers from the government and corporate sector, will also see the appearance of Changa Changa, a group of dancers from the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have featured in national and international music shows.

The group also features as a supporting act in the video clips of such artists as Kanda Bongo Man and Kora award-winning Koffi Olomide.

Tickets for the show are already on sale. Companies can book a table at R5000 for 10 people.

The dinner will include a three-course meal that will be washed down with the finest South African wines.
