Motorist burnt to death in car

It is believed his vehicle burst into flames while in motion and the driver could not escape the raging fire.

Emergency rescue teams tried to douse the flames but were unable to save the motorist's life.

Derrick Banks of ER24 said when the paramedics arrived at the scene the fire was still smouldering.

He said what was left of the burnt body were found in the driver's seat.

Meanwhile, two taxi passengers and a driver were burnt to death when a taxi burst into flames in Dundee in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.

It is believed the taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and it veered off the road, crashing into a tree.

Provincial transport spokesperson Nonkululeko Mbatha said the taxi was travelling on the R272 from Dundee to KwaMdakani when the accident occurred.

She said the dead people were trapped in the taxi and burnt to death.

Mbatha said 15 other passengers were taken to hospital.

Captain Shooz Magudulela said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
