Batau bag three points

Mpumalanga's Batau FC got their Inland Stream Safa Vodacom Promotional League playoffs to a positive note when they beat Peace Lovers of Limpopo 2-0 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London yesterday.

Mpumalanga's Batau FC got their Inland Stream Safa Vodacom Promotional League playoffs to a positive note when they beat Peace Lovers of Limpopo 2-0 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London yesterday.

Sibusiso Mathebula and Sifiso Thomo struck in each half to earn Batau a deserved win. Batau spokesperson Sam Khalishwase said though they were thrilled by the win, they will not rest on their laurels.

"Winning our first match has eased pressure on us and the players are all psyched up for their next match. The game against Lovers was very tough and for us to win it proved that we are here to compete and not to add to the numbers.

"But we have put that win behind us, and we are ready for tomorrow [today]."

Batau take on RNB 54 of North West in their second match of the week-long event this afternoon.

RNB will need nothing but a win against Batau after they were also defeated 2-0 by Lusitano of Gauteng in their opener yesterday, thanks to a brace from Mbesi Shangase.

The coastal stream matches saw hosts Blackburn Rovers, who are guided by former Bush Bucks player William Mugeyi, beat Northern Cape's Real Madrid 2-1.

Siphiwe Ngesi scored a brace for Rovers, while Brian Assegai scored the consolation goal for Madrid.

Styles Phumo's United FC overcame New Castle Sicillians 2-0.

Today fixtures:

11am: Lovers v Lusitano; 3pm: Batau v RNB

COASTAL
