Moroka Swallows bestowed the club's player of the season award on their influential captain, Lefa Tsutsulupa, at their end-of-season function in Sedibeng yesterday.

"This is great, I would like to thank all the people who voted for me," said a thrilled Tsutsulupa, who got married in Bloemfontein three weeks ago.

He pocketed R20000 for winning the award.

"It was unfortunate that we did not qualify for the top eight, but ending the season on such an incredible note by winning the Nedbank Cup was a special thing for us," he said.

"We have laid a solid foundation for next season, the plan is to challenge for the league honours. We have a great coach [Julio Leal] and his technical staff who are doing a wonderful job."

Tsutsulupa's deputy, Mark Haskins, left with two awards - players' player of the season and most improved player, which came with R25000.

Brazilian midfielder Igor Alves, who joined the club at the beginning of the past season, received R5000 for winning the best newcomer award.

Sandile "AK 47" Ndlovu got R10000 for the golden boot.
