Premier's promise to end strike

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has intervened and committed herself to helping Metrobus to speedily resolve the strike.

This was after she had met Johannesburg mayor Amos Masondo, his mayoral committee and provincial authorities to discuss the ongoing strike, preparations for the Confederations Cup and progress on the Bus Rapid Transport project.

Mokonyane and Masondo promised delivery of bus services to the people of Gauteng. But yesterday, the premier's office still had no idea how they planned to resolve the matter, despite a looming strike on Thursday by unions in sympathy with the drivers that could cripple the province.
