Leading KwaZulu-Natal chicken producers Rainbow has introduced a corporate social investment education programme to help poor pupils.
Through the Star Schools Programme needy pupils are given extra tuition in maths, science and English.
The firm also provides a feeding scheme to ensure that the children, especially those from child-headed households, don't go hungry.
Since the project's inception in 2007, 200 have benefitted. Participating pupils are also given a bulk quantity of chicken every quarter.
Those who have benefitted are pupils in Mpumalanga Township west of Durban doing Grades 10, 11 and 12.
"We are linking our brand to the children's success. We are also assisting families with essential protein and encouraging them to support their children's learning," said company spokesperson Warren Farrer said. -
