Mpumalanga government intends placing the provincial health department under administration, Sowetan has learnt .

Insiders in the department said yesterday that premier David Mabuza decided to place the department under curatorship after the expulsion of its chief financial officer Joshua Nethononda earlier this year.

Provincial health department spokesperson Mpho Gabashane declined to comment on allegations and referred Sowetan to government spokesperson Ntime Skosana, who could not comment on the allegations.

The DA in Mpumalanga said if the rumour were true it was a good move since it would enable new health MEC Dikeledi Mahlangu to start on a clean slate".
