War is what Mzolisi Yoyo will get on Friday night, not the South African lightweight belt, which will be at stake against Patrick "The Hammer" Malinga.
Malinga is the champion. He will bid for the first defence
"I swear by my mother, Ria Malinga, as well as the entire Malinga clan down in Bergville in KwaZulu Natal that Yoyo will go back to East London empty-handed," Malinga said yesterday.
"I sweat blood when I won this belt from Amon Baloyi in August last year. So anybody who wants it must be prepared for a bloodbath."
Patrick is so psyched up that he even predicted a short route to victory.
"He won't see the last round," predicted the champion who blasted Filipino Romeo Jakosalem from in four rounds in February.
That was Malinga's 20th stoppage from 23 victories against six defeats and two draws. He defied all odds when he won the title.
Pundits had tipped the hard-hitting Baloyi to win. Baloyi tried his best over six rounds, but Malinga turned the tables around from the seventh, delivering the most vicious blows that knocked Baloyi's head violently backward.
Spampool stopped the fight. on the 12th round. Baloyi had convulsions and was hospitalised for almost three weeks.
SABC will show a live broadcast on Blow by Blow at 10pm. There will be five more bouts. Action will begin at 7pm.
