BMX stars do battle in Soweto

Some top local and international BMX riders will go head-to-head for the first Red Bull Soweto Sessions contest on Saturday and Sunday.

Some top local and international BMX riders will go head-to-head for the first Red Bull Soweto Sessions contest on Saturday and Sunday.

The riders will be wheeling their way down to the Orlando Power Station, Soweto, to battle it out on a tailor-made park incorporating elements of dirt, street and natural obstacles.

The course, which is being designed in conjunction with the assistance of Brent Tuson from Pro Ramps and the riders themselves will ensure a sweet but challenging run, to say the least.

On Saturday, there will be an 'open jam session' for all riders interested in having the chance to show their skills and jam with these elite riders.

Each rider taking part in the jam session has the opportunity to impress the judges, who have the authority to award top performers with a 'wild card' entry to the pro contest on Sunday.

Fifteen top riders from across the world will sweat it out in the event.

Mzansi will bank on the likes of Buddy Chellan and brothers Brad and Greg Illingworth. - Sowetan
