A legal battle is looming between the University of Venda and commercial vehicles manufacturer MAN and Truck over "an old bus".

This comes after the university instructed its attorneys to reclaim R1,5million it paid the company for a bus it says wasn't the one it ordered.

University management yesterday claimed that the company sold them an old bus "while they (Univen) had paid for a new one".

Univen's legal adviser Nanga Lidovho said they discovered that the bus was not new when it was delivered and ordered the company to take it back. He said the bus was a "rebuilt" one.

Attorney Manie du Preez confirmed they were instructed by university management to claim for a new bus or to get its money back.

But , MAN management has denied Univen's claim and vowed to defend the matter in court.

MAN Middelburg representative Deon Otto confirmed the sale but declined to comment, referring the matter to their legal department.
