A young Cape couple died in a horror crash at about 10am yesterday when their black VW Golf was involved in a collision with a horse and trailer truck on the R612 Ixopo Main Road in Sawoti, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
Fehmidah Abdulla, 32, and Muhammad Bilal Rahiman, 36, were returning home after a holiday in KwaZulu-Natal when their car and a truck belonging to Timber Logistics of Umkomaas crashed head-on.
Police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said the truck was carrying a load of timber from Ixopo to Sappi Saiccor in Umkomaas when the incident happened.
The truck driver, Mandla Mkhize, 37, of Jolivet, sustained injuries to his head and suffered a broken leg .
Police have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the accident as well as the driver of the truck which was allegedly being overtaken to contact them on 083-401-8360.
