Kaizer Chiefs have ended weeks of speculation about their new coach by unveiling Serbian Vladimir Vermezovic as the new man to guide them in the new season.
The former Yugoslav international defender's first assignment is to prepare the team for the highly anticipated Vodacom Challenge where Amakhosi will play against Orlando Pirates and Manchester City in July.
The 45-year-old Serbian replaced Muhsin Ertugral, who began a second stint as coach of Ajax Cape Town yesterday.
Ertugral signed on the dotted line at Ikamva, the side's headquarters in the Mother City, despite early denials by Ajax boss John Comitis that the temperamental Turk was returning to the club.
It still remains to be seen if Ertugral will able to work with Mabhuti Khenyeza, who left Chiefs to join Ajax after running battles with the Turkish coach.
Ajax last night announced that there will be an urgent meeting with Ertugral and Khenyeza to create a harmonious situation between the two for the benefit of the team.
Khenyeza had earlier indicated that he would leave Ajax should Ertugral be employed by the club.
"Kaizer Chiefs can now confirm that terms have been agreed with Mr Vladimir Vermezovic," read a brief statement posted on the Amakhosi website yesterday.
Chiefs, who finished third on the Absa Premiership log this past season, and are hoping that Vermezovic will help them go all the way in the new season.
Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung said, like all the other 15 clubs in the Premiership, they were hoping the new changes will help them to do well in the new season.
On his widely reported statement that no local coach can guide Chiefs, Motaung said: " It does seem that I was misquoted on my remarks about the coaching job at Chiefs and Pirates.
"I therefore find it appropriate to re-emphasise my comments, that there are only two local coaches who, in my opinion, have the capability to coach Chiefs or Pirates and both coaches are not available as they are committed to their respective teams.
"The gist of my comment was triggered by a question raised as to why the two teams are always looking for foreign coaches.
"This issue of foreign coaches or local coaches to me is a whole lot of nonsense. A coach is a coach irrespective of where he comes from.
"The irony about this is that even other coaches who are foreigners themselves refer to a new coach from outside as a foreigner.
"Coaching at these two teams comes with enormous pressure, hence coaches find the environment completely different from the other teams."
