An aggrieved resident of Thulamahashe township near Bushbuckridge has laid criminal charges against a white man for calling him a "kaffirtjie".

The accused, who cannot be named until he appears before the Hoedspruit magistrate's court today, was arrested on Wednesday.

Bethuel Ndlovu, 44, said he had visited a night club in Hoedspruit, along the Mpumalanga-Limpopo border, when the "white man" approached and greeted him late last month.

"He said how you are 'kaffirtjie'? I asked him if he was aware that he was offending me but he repeated the derogatory term.

"My problem is that this man knows me very well as we usually meet at the night club," said Ndlovu.

Limpopo police spokesperson Mohale Ramatseba said the accused would appear in court today.
