Moutse residents have called for an investigation into how an estimated R200000 allegedly went missing from a local community trust account.

The account was opened three years ago with money raised from the sale of land on which the Moutse Mall was built.Residents claim three amounts of R1million, R1,3million and R1,6million were paid for the land.

Sowetan was told by Moutse residents after a community gathering at the OR Tambo Stadium at Elandsdoorn in Moutse that about R200000 was reported missing from the Ntwane-Elandsdoorn Trust Account. The sources claim the money was fraudulently withdrawn about a fortnight ago.

Moutse Demarcation Forum spokesperson and SACP local secretary Seun Mogotji was mandated by the meeting to look into the matter and lay a charge with police if necessary.

However, Castle Masilela, a trustee, said yesterday that no money was missing from the account and promised to give feedback to local structures within 14 days. Leader of the Ntwane tribe, Kgosi Chaki Mathebe, said he expected the money to be intact "since I was not consulted regarding any transactions".
